SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10: WHEEL OF THE YEAR: MABON: 2PM
Our Celebrate The Sabbats series, now known as The Wheel of The Year meets eight times per year to teach old and new student how to honour and celebrate the eight Sabbats of our culture: This month students will study and create meaningful crafts and symbols for Mabon.
Mabon is a harvest festival, the second of three, that encourages Pagans to “reap what they sow,” both literally and figuratively. It is the time when night and day stand equal in duration; thus is it a time to express gratitude, complete projects and honor a moment of balance.
Mabon is a time to reflect on the previous year, when we can celebrate our successes (likened to bringing in the harvest) and assess which crops, projects, or dreams didn’t come to fruition. This is the time to look back not just on the past year, but also your life, and to plan for the future.
In the rhythm of the year, Mabon is a time of rest and celebration, after the hard work of gathering the crops.
Warm autumn days are followed by chilly nights, as the Old Sun God returns to the embrace of the Goddess.
Students will learn about Mabon, aka The Witches Thanksgiving, create a craft, participate in a reflection circle and nosh on pumpkin and apple treats!
Your $20 paid registration indludes everything.
SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 11: ENOCHIAN MAGICK W/JONATHAN SOUSA: 12PM
The Enochian magical system was revealed by angels in Elizabethan England to John Dee and his seer Edward Kelley. It was largely forgotten through the centuries (despite occasional references in the cunning traditions of the British Isles). During the early 20th Century, such magical orders as the Golden Dawn, Aurum Solis, and the OTO began to work with the original material, adapt it to their particular magical current, and revive the practice. It has since gained (and earned) a reputation for being extremely powerful.
Despite seeing use by cunning men (and wise women) over the centuries, the Enochian Art has oft been seen as a complex art suited more to the lodge than to the coven.
There have been exceptions, as Alex Sanders, Lady Fran Culter, Doreen Valiente, Sybil Leek, Mary Oneida Toupes, Peter Paddon, and others, are recorded as drawing from the Enochian corpus for magical workings.
Join author and Witch Jonathan Sousa in exploring the Enochian Art, as first experienced by Dee and Kelley, as practiced by the Witches and Cunning Folk of the Isles during the Industrial Revolution, as recreated by the Lodges of Victorian-era England, as further research leads to a revival of the original system, and as modern Traditional Witches can adapt the Art to their own methods.
This is a two part class. Each part lasts roughly 3 hours, with a break given halfway through.
The first part will cover the history and theory, and center on a practical exploration of the Ars Heptarchia (the sevenfold art i.e. a system of planetary magic).
The second part will center on the more well known system of Elemental Tablets and the Aythers surrounding the Earth.
Resources for further study and experimentation will be shared.
$95 per student if paid in full by September 5.
$105 thereafter and on the day of class.
We ask students to arrive by 11:45am so we may start promptly at 12noon.
